French television director Alain Brigand (Artistic Producer) had the idea for the project the day after the attacks and the film is a remarkable and thought provoking collaboration, pooling the talents of 11 world renowned filmmakers from 11 countries.
11'09"01 - 11 SEPTEMBER was premiered at the Venice Film Festival 2002, where Ken Loach's episode won the Fipresci Critics' prize for outstanding short film. Cinema's first direct response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001 is a measured, wide-ranging and ultimately humanistic reflection on the events of that day and their widely different worldwide resonance.
Given complete freedom of expression and linked only by theme and a running time of 11 minutes and 9 seconds each, the resulting collection is an extraordinary mix of ideas and genres, imbued by the personal styles and preoccupation of the filmmakers, expressing 11 different perspectives of the events and their aftermath.
