UNKNOWN WHITE MALE tells the true story of Doug Bruce, a young, successful Brit who one day in 2003 inexplicably lost his memories to a rare form of amnesia. It assembles video-diary footage from just 5 days after memory loss with interviews with friends and family, home videos and photographs to show Doug's fascinating journey to re-discover himself and the world around him.
British director Rupert Murray is a long-time friend of Doug's, which gives the film an added personal dimension. UNKNOWN WHITE MALE was a finalist at the Sundance, LA and London film festivals last year, and was nominated by the DGA for the Outstanding Achievement in Direction Award
Imagine waking up not knowing who you are.
Imagine that every memory of your life had been wiped away and no one knew why.
Imagine having to meet your family and closest friends and rediscover your world.
Sometime between 8pm on July 1st and 7am on July 2nd, 2002, Doug Bruce lost himself. That morning, riding alone on a New York subway headed towards Coney Island, he could not remember his name. Where he worked. Who his friends were. How much money he had in his bank account. He was without his identity.
UNKNOWN WHITE MALE is the true story of how Bruce, a successful former stockbroker, struggles to learn who he was and who he will become. The documentary, produced by Bruce's long time friend, Rupert Murray, chronicles this profound journey.
UNKNOWN WHITE MALE is part objective documentary, part intimate autobiography. But most of all, it is the rawest form of reality TV.
