Renowned film and TV actor Paddy Considine (DEAD MAN'S SHOES, THE RED RIDING TRILOGY) makes his feature writer/director debut with TYRANNOSAUR, an exploration of how love and friendship can be found in the darkest of places. Principal photography commenced on 12 April 2010 when shooting commenced on location in Leeds for four weeks.
TYRANNOSAUR is the story of Joseph (Peter Mullan) a man plagued by violence and a rage that is driving him to self-destruction. As Joseph's life spirals into turmoil a chance of redemption appears in the form of Hannah (Olivia Colman), a Christian charity shop worker. Their relationship develops to reveal that Hannah is hiding a secret of her own with devastating results on both of their lives.
TYRANNOSAUR stars Peter Mullan (MY NAME IS JOE, TRAINSPOTTING), Olivia Colman (PEEP SHOW, HOT FUZZ) and Eddie Marsan (HAPPY GO LUCKY, VERA DRAKE) and will be produced by Diarmid Scrimshaw. A Warp X and Inflammable Films production, TYRANNOSAUR is backed by Film4, the UK Film Council, Screen Yorkshire, Optimum Releasing, EM Media, Madman and Nonstop Entertainment. International sales are being handled by Protagonist Pictures.
Paddy Considine is known for his intense character portrayals across film and television. His long time collaborator Shane Meadows has directed him in A ROOM FOR ROMEO BRASS, DEAD MAN'S SHOES (which he co-wrote) and LE DONK AND SCOR-ZAY-ZEE, the latter two for Warp Films. Other film roles include THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, HOT FUZZ, CINDERELLA MAN, MY SUMMER OF LOVE, 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, IN AMERICA, THE LAST RESORT and the upcoming SUBMARINE for Warp Films. His television credits include RED RIDING: IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1980, CRY OF THE OWL and MY ZINC BED. Paddy previously wrote and directed the short film DOG ALTOGETHER for Warp Films, winning the Best Short Film BAFTA and BIFA awards as well as the Silver Lion award at Venice in 2007. DOG ALTOGETHER stars Peter Mullan and Olivia Colman and introduces the story which Paddy's feature debut TYRANNOSAUR now continues.
Peter Mullen is the winner of many awards including Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival in 1998 for his performance in MY NAME IS JOE, and the BIFA Best Actor award in 1999 for MISS JULIE. Other memorable film performances also include TRAINSPOTTING, BRAVEHEART, SHALLOW GRAVE and RIFF-RAFF. He has written and directed three feature films - ORPHANS, THE MAGDALENE SISTERS and most recently NEDS. Previously appearing in Paddy Considine's short film DOG ALTOGETHER, Peter resumes his role as Joseph in TYRANNOSAUR.
Olivia Colman has made a big name for herself in British comedy, starring in classic series such as PEEP SHOW, GREEN WING, BLACK BOOKS AND THE OFFICE. Olivia's film appearances include HOT FUZZ directed by Edgar Wright and Warp Films' GROW YOUR OWN and LE DONK AND SCOR-ZAY-ZEE. She also starred alongside Peter Mullan in DOG ALTOGETHER. Olivia has taken on numerous roles for BBC Radio 4 as well as treading the boards for a number of theatrical roles including LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT with Jessica Lange.
Eddie Marsan's extensive acting credits include award-winning performances in Mike Leigh's HAPPY-GO-LUCKY and VERA DRAKE and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's 21 GRAMS. Other appearances include SHERLOCK HOLMES, MIAMI VICE, THE ILLUSIONIST, GANGS OF NEW YORK and ME AND ORSON WELLES.
BAFTA winner Diarmid Scrimshaw has worked with Paddy Considine on several projects including producing his award-winning short DOG ALTOGETHER for Warp Films. Diarmid has produced most of the visual content for the Arctic Monkeys including their feature-length concert film ARCTIC MONKEYS AT THE APOLLO directed by Richard Ayoade, which played in cinemas worldwide. Other producing credits include the short films CURTAINS (written and directed by Julian Barratt and Dan Jemmett), SCUMMY MAN (nominated for Berlin's Golden Bear), THE MIGHTY BOOSH LIVE: FUTURE SAILORS TOUR (director: Paul King), and most recently the intro cinematic for DJHERO (nominated for a VES and presently up for a British Animation award). Diarmid's work has won awards at Seattle, Venice, Edinburgh, the BIFAs, BAFTAs and three times at the NME awards.
