Maggie Gyllenhaal, one of America's most respected young actresses, delivers a magnificent performance in the fantastic SHERRYBABY, a humane and moving portrait of a woman trying to reconnect with her child after being released from prison.
Though only 22, Sherry Swanson (Maggie Gyllenhaal) has just been released from serving a three-year sentence for robbery for her heroin addiction. A model prisoner she comes out a transformed person and is determined to regain custody of her young daughter Alexis (Ryan Simpkins), who has been cared for in her absence by her brother Bobby (Brad Henke) and his wife Lynn (Bridget Barkan).
Staying off drugs, finding a job and becoming a responsible mother, put Sherry under enormous strain when confronted by the realities of unemployment, halfway houses, and parole restrictions. It becomes an uphill struggle to convince Bobby and Lynn about her ability to care for Alexis and threatens the already delicate relationship she has with her daughter. Ultimately she learns that as the harsh realities of life often get in the way of her best intentions, sometimes it's best to take life one small step at a time.
