Picking up where GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER left off, ROCKY ROAD explores the problems and prejudices one interracial couple experiences from their families and society in a modern dramedy. Rather than shy away from the racial issues, ROCKY ROAD serves a heaping scoop of contemporary cultural conflict as the story weaves through the life of Talia (Nicole Smith), the eldest daughter of prosperous Caribbean immigrants in Los Angeles.
Talia's love for John (Will Wallace), a white man, frustrates Talia's militant black sister, Tina (Natasha Pearce), who cannot understand why Talia isn't keeping it real. To make matters worse, John's white father (Wolf Muser) keeps trying to poison Talia's relationship by talking behind her back. Split by their feelings about John, Talia's family is headed by strong West Indian patriarch (Robert Wisdom) and matriarch (Valeri Ross), who keeps rising above the color divide. However while Talia's ready for the big commitment from John, numerous obstacles jump into the progress of their relationship.
Questioning the naive notion of America as currently colorblind, ROCKY ROAD colors in the complexity of modern racial relations between two families through humor, wit, and drama.
ROCKY ROAD is produced by Geoff Cunningham, Nicole Smith, Laura Caulfield and both written and directed by Geoff Cunningham.
