'I can feel what's going on inside a piece of electronic equipment,' claims Robert Moog at the start of this documentary charting the how's and the why's of a revolution in sound. In 1964, Moog and composer Herbert Deutsch created the first modular synthesizer, altering the course of modern music in the process. Capable of creating brand-new sounds as well as recreating those made by pre-existing instruments, the synthesizer that bore Moog's name was as controversial as it was revelatory.
The man himself traces the history of his invention and other forms of electronic instrumentation, bringing together technical details with his own personal philosophies while tending to his organic vegetable garden. The film travels the world to meet those influenced by Moog's work, with interviews and live performances from Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Bernie Worrell, Gershon Kingsley, Luke Vibert, Money Mark, Stereolab and DJ Spooky. As they say, it's a 'Moog-enhancing' experience.
