Synopsis

ANOTHER LIFE, the true life story of Edith Thompson, a woman wrongly accused of her husband's murder in Edwardian England, stars Natasha Little and Ioan Gruffudd.

When Edith Thompson (Natasha Little) meets her sister's suitor and dashing childhood tearaway Freddie Bywaters (Ioan Gruffudd), he seems to offer all the promise and romance that is lacking in her strained and passionless marriage to Percy (Nick Moran). It is not long before their clandestine meetings take a sinister turn, as they jokingly fantasise of doing away with Percy once and for all.

When a dark figure steps out of the shadows to ruthlessly stab Percy to death after a trip to the theatre with Edith, it becomes all too apparent the sway she holds over the impressionable and impulsive Freddie. With a strong supporting cast including Tom Wilkinson (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE FULL MONTY) as Edith's forward-thinking boss Mr Carlton, Imelda Staunton (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, SENSE & SENSIBILITY) as her mother and Rachael Stirling (STILL CRAZY) as her sister Avis, ANOTHER LIFE paints a genuine and often moving portrait of post-war mores and morals. But following a reappraisal of Edith Thompson's case, would a twenty-first century jury still find her guilty?
