Ignoring Jackie's advice to stay with Eli, Tom finds himself in a cloud of secrets, loneliness and self hate. Eli in contrast turns to his straight-talking sister Rayna (Christina Ricci). Together they strategise about the relationship and ways to detach from their therapist parents Dr & Dr Wyckoff (Andrea Martin & Tony Abatemarco).
Eli's parents keep encouraging him to talk, while Tom's repressed alcoholic parents (Joanna Kerns & Nicolas Surovy) are trying to get him not to. Eli's story is narrated to Esther (Doris Roberts), the salty receptionist at an STD Testing Clinic. Esther's wisdom, which comes from her own 40-year marriage, becomes the ultimate testament to relationships in general. Tom narrates his story to a friend he meets after an AA meeting and learns his own life lessons in the process
A contemporary romantic comedy about the quest to find the 'one' when the 'one' doesn't know he's the 'one'. ALL OVER THE GUY explores the unlikely pairing of Eli (Dan Bucatinsky also the screenwriter) and Tom (Richard Ruccolo) both in their twenties who are thrown together by their respective friends Jackie (Sasha Alexander) and Brett (Adam Goldberg) in an attempt to ignite their own romance, While Jackie and Brett are falling in love, Eli and Tom in stark contrast are stumbling away from it.
